Why are there two websites that look similar and seem to both be AHHS Alumni sites

The short answer: one website is the official AHHS Alumni Association’s site; the other website is the Harris Connect website where our database of alumni is available.

The AHHS Alumni Association website, www.ahhsalumni.org, has been in existence for many years at this address. Want information on classmates? Looking for information on reunions? Want to know the latest happenings at AHHS? Want to look back on some AHHS history or memories? This is the place!

The Alumni Association website is and will be a work in progress and has undergone a complete renovation in recent months, making it more user friendly for you and giving it a new look and more functionality. There are things that are not completely polished and links have not all been thoroughly tested, but for a volunteer effort, we're pretty proud of it! It is accessed by all, free of charge, and supported by the dues of alumni who become members of the Association. We encourage you to join our Association ($10/year or $25/3 years), but you won't be shut out of our website if you choose not to join the Association.

Confusions have come about because, coincidentally, two new websites were set up and two e-mails from two different entities were sent within the same period of time – each about the AHHS Alumni Association. Basically, The AHHS Alumni Association has a new look for this website and sent a letter from our President to introduce it. The other website was developed by Harris Connect, the folks who helped us publish our directory and now, therefore, maintain our database. They also sent out an e-mail to let you know about their website. You must register for their website which allows you to change and update your own address and other information for free. They also offer an option to subscribe to their website. If you choose, you may subscribe (pay for - $9.95/year) and have access to the rest of their website – information about other classmates and so on.

Your Alumni Association encourages you to go to the AHHS Harris Connect site to change or correct information in your own records there at no charge. This enables us to stay in touch with you and help your reunion committee contact you about upcoming plans.
My address/phone number/e-mail/whatever information is incorrect. How do I change it?

You can go into your own records at Harris Connect and change your information for yourself at no cost. You just need to register with them. You don’t need to subscribe (there is a charge of $9.95/year) if you don’t choose to. If you do choose to subscribe with Harris, you will be able to access the other resources they have to offer, beyond your own records.

We'd like to be able to stay in touch with you! The records we're keeping are available to your reunion committee, so we all need to be current and up-to-date with our on line information to help each other. If we all work together, we'll all benefit!

We’re trying to meet the needs of so many different alumni and so many different age groups. Our first alumni graduated in 1925 and are now gone, of course, but many who graduated in the ‘40’s and ‘50’s are still interested in news from AHHS. We are trying to ease them into electronic news rather than the printed newsletters they have been accustomed to receiving. But we also need to keep in mind the newest graduates as well and want, of course, to appeal to them – if only as a resource.

If you’ve driven past the AHHS Baseball Field these past few months, you’ve noticed major renovations going on! It is Head Coach Tommy Elliott’s own Field of Dreams II.

Construction began in November to replace the grass infield with a synthetic all weather turf, move the backstop back to gain more foul territory, replace the old bleachers with new stadium style seating, and remove the chain link fence behind home plate and replace it with friendly spectator netting. There is also a storage facility being built beneath the new bleachers and replacing the press box.

As with any project, it would be sad not to finish it right. There are plans to build an iron and brick entrance to the baseball area, add raised bleachers just behind the first base dugout and replace the outfield chain link fence with a new blue solid metal fence, but these plans cannot be completed without additional support. The AHHS Booster Club is spearheading an effort to raise $42,000 to complete this project.

We will be happy to post the information about your reunion on our website for you. Just let us know the dates, times, locations, and any other pertinent information you might want to include (dress, cost, cash bar, band/DJ, deadlines, etc.). We also will need to give information on the Contact Person(s) - how to get in touch with those in the know. We can provide a link to your website if you have one for your class, or e-mail address...just contact us.

The Association will share its database of names and addresses, including e-mail addresses, for your reunion class. We'll e-mail you an Excel file. Just contact us. If you provide us with a final list of addresses after your reunion, and we certainly hope you will, we will update our database with the new information and keep it current for you for your next reunion.

Committees can also use the Association's tax exempt certificate number for purchased items (decorations, catering, room rental, etc.) for the reunion activities, thus saving your budget for more interesting things. Just contact us.

Also available for you is the Association's Bulk Mail Permit Number to receive a reduced postage rate for your reunion mailings. The special price applies only if mailing 200 items or more and the return address used must be that of our Association. Check with the post office for current regulations to decide if it's worth it for you (it can be a bit complicated). Then contact us if you want to use this service.

It’s Your Alumni Association...

The Arlington Heights High School Alumni Association was organized in 1993 by a small group of alumni who wanted to be able to stay in contact with their high school friends and to give back to Heights. Some of the founders had children who were then or would be attending AHHS, so this was an extra incentive. The group applied for and received 501c3 status from the State of Texas, making the Association a tax-exempt and not-for-profit organization. Dues and donations then became tax deductible for its members. A database of over 12,000 names and addresses was compiled and newsletters were sent out three or four times a year.

The Scholarship Endowment Fund was started with the money raised at the first All-Class Party and your donations since have allowed us to grow the Fund so that the interest earned each year can be given to worthy AHHS Seniors as scholarships for their continued education.

Many wonderful projects benefiting the school have been done over the years. Improvements to the building, athletic fields and grounds continue because of alumni support. Our latest efforts have been to publish an Alumni Directory and to refurbish and improve our website.

We welcome you to read more about your Alumni Association on the website and to contact us with any suggestions or questions you might have.
