Dear AHHS Alumni,
Texting, tweeting and blogging, oh my! Look at all the wonderful ways we have of staying in touch with each other. It’s easier than ever to keep up with events and changes at Heights – and we’d like you to be part of the communication. That’s why we’re writing to you.
As is apparent, there are lots of groups vying for your attention as evidenced by the fact that we have this website and the Harris (directory) people have another. We're both working off the same list. We encourage you to join the AHHS Alumni Association.
Your Alumni Association has been around for seventeen years and during that time together we’ve accomplished a lot for both the graduates and the current students at AHHS, thanks to your support. This list of projects shows you what was gained when we focused our funds and attention in a specific direction:
• Awarded two scholarships a year since 1993 to deserving senior boys and girls for tuition to continue their education
• Published and mailed several newsletters a year to 8,000-10,000 AHHS alumni
• Advised reunion groups and provided them with class names and current addresses, tax-free benefits and posting of their reunion information on our web site to help publicize their events
• Planned, organized and hosted three all-class reunions
• Printed the first-ever alumni directory in 2010
• Contributed to the completion of the original baseball field improvements
• Contributed to the renovated seating in the auditorium
• Made contributions for computers
• Added trees on campus
• Contributed to the renovated sound system in the auditorium
• Completed a “Bronze the Dome” project which included renovation of the cupola and replacement of the missing weather vane with a proper Yellow Jacket (instead of the dreaded Panther, the former weather vane, missing since the 60’s) (… it has recently been stolen, so perhaps we’ll do this again)
• Contributed to the fine arts department improvements and new dance studio
• Contributed to the all sports indoor training facility
• Contributed to new fencing along Hulen Drive
You’ve done a lot, haven’t you? And now, we are revitalizing the Association, planning upcoming events and projects and introducing the new website with its fresh communication options so you are never far away from your memories, friends, current news and information about future happenings.
Today we are launching the 2010 membership drive. Join us. Encourage your friends and others in your class to become fellow members so we can continue bringing you news, events and keeping you connected. You can join online at www.ahhsalumni.org or send a check to the address in the letterhead above. Make it a contest, if you’d like. See if your class can have the highest membership participation. Watch the “Association News” on the website for announcements and current information on the class with the most members! Just as important, volunteer for leadership on the Alumni Association board and on the committees, too. You’ll be setting the direction for the future and participating in getting us there.
To be vital and vibrant, you, plus your ideas and input, are needed and welcomed - it's your organization! You will have a great time reconnecting with old friends and meeting new ones, whether in person or electronically. Now you don't even have to live in Fort Worth to enjoy the classmates, the memories and the fun. Sign up on this website to be involved and to make your association worthy of its proud AHHS heritage. Fresh faces and new enthusiasm (especially yours) are welcomed! The best is yet to come! A warm thank you for who you are and what you do.
