The Arlington Heights High School Alumni Association was organized in 1993 by a small group of alumni who wanted to be able to stay in contact with their high school friends and to give back to Heights. Some of the founders had children who were then or would be attending AHHS, so this was an extra incentive. The group applied for and received 501c3 status from the State of Texas, making the Association a tax-exempt and not-for-profit organization. Dues and donations then became tax deductible for its members. A database of over 12,000 names and addresses was compiled and newsletters were sent out three or four times a year.
The Scholarship Endowment Fund was started with the money raised at the first All-Class Party and your donations since have allowed us to grow the Fund so that the interest earned each year can be given to worthy AHHS Seniors as scholarships for their continued education.
Many wonderful projects benefiting the school have been done over the years. Improvements to the building, athletic fields and grounds continue because of alumni support. Our latest efforts have been to publish an Alumni Directory and to refurbish and improve our website.
We welcome you to read more about your Alumni Association on the website and to contact us with any suggestions or questions you might have.
As with any organization, there are always plans and dreams for future additions, improvements and changes to make things run more smoothly, serve the members more effectively and generally make the organization one you would be proud to be a part of.
Just in the past few months we have published the 2010 Alumni Association Directory – a first for us. And you are looking at our newly designed website which has many more capabilities (you can now pay your Association dues on-line, for instance, and add photos and news from your last reunion) to make it more up-to-date, appealing, readable and user-friendly.
We are excited!
Many of our fellow Heights grads have had a role in bringing the Alumni Association from its beginnings to the point where it is today. But we recognize that, to remain vital, we must also always be thinking about the future of the organization.
We have accumulated a list of suggestions or “dreams” – from small and simple to large and grandiose.
Welcome to the new era of the AHHS Alumni Association! We recognize that we are now a global community, inspired and connected in ways never imagined when we set sail on our life ships for all the ports we’ve lived in and visited since high school. Wow! What an unexpected journey each of us has taken!
We honor each of you and recognize that your gifts and talents have deepened and flourished. You’ve used what you learned when we were together as a base for where you are now. No matter how many years have passed, you can probably point to specific life-changing events that occurred for you ‘back then’. (Even if it was a year or two ago.)
We are looking for volunteers from alumni all over the world. Most of these are 'virtual' jobs and can be done from anywhere. We welcome your participation! There are 'project' jobs (one-timers) and 'recurring' jobs (year-long or six-month-long opportunities).
Some 'project' jobs:
find one representative for each class -- you'll need good detective skills to do this one
find 'decade reps' to funnel information to and from the class reps -- you'll need persuasive and organizational skills for this
job-namer - you'll need creativity to do this -- the old titles of 'officers' of our organization don't fit any more and the new titles aren't fun enough. They need to be updated; can you help?
scholarship winner list - more detective work needed! Be sure the list is complete and find any who are missing.
